Baptisms

It is the intention of the clergy staff and lay people of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church that baptisms performed in the church should not only be a joyous time, but a reverent act of commitment for those who seek to baptize their children or those who seek baptism for themselves. Baptism is a sacrament of the Church; it is our intention, therefore, to insure that the service, like any service of the Episcopal Church, be carried out with solemnity, happiness, and respect.

Baptism Preparation: Please contact the Priest-in-Charge (contact information is at the end of this page) to arraign for Baptism preparation which is required before the scheduled Baptism.  This requirement can change if there is a pastoral emergancy. Baptism are considered public services and will be scheuled during Sunday services unless there is a pastoral emergency.

Date of Baptism: There are four times in the church year when Baptisms are most opporpriate: The Day of Pentecost, All Saint's Day or the Sunday after All Saints, the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord and at the Easter Vigil. Other occasions can be discussed with the Priest-inCharge.

The following guidelines have been established:

Baptism Coordinator   (Shelly Sakowski)
A coordinator will be contacting you and providing assistance once a tentative date has been set. The coordinator will also be present during the baptism.

Ceremony
Baptism is a sacrament of the Church and must conform to the provisions of our Book of Common Prayer. The priest will have final approval of any special request.

Photographs
Flash pictures are to be taken only by the photographer during the ceremony. Guests may take flash photos after the ceremony. Photographs may be taken before or after the service by arrangement with the Baptism coordinator or priest. Video equipment will be allowed in the back of the church or in the narthex.

Reception
Only small private receptions will be allowed upon approval by the priest and coordinator.

Cost: There is no cost for a Baptism if you are a member of St. Andrews or have been attending regularly. If you are not a member of the church, a contribution to the Priest-in-Charge's Discretionary would be appropriate to cover Baptismal preparation
